Projects 2008
The following are the first of our projects that we will be working on in 2008.
Charitable Kitchen Project
Cost: $20,500
Location: Ariha (Jerich), Palestine
Population: 20,795
This project is based on the idea of employing widows and using their skills to benefit their own families and the community. A kitchen will be set up in the city where widows will prepare and sell food to the public at affordable local prices. This provides an alternative to expensive imported products and creates some movement in the dying economy of the city. It also gives a sense of dignity to the widows and allows them to move on with their difficult lives and manage their difficult situation. We need to assist them and put them back up on their feet and also create awareness within our community about their situation.
Sudanese Maternity Ward
Cost: $5,000
Location: Khasm Al Karbeh, East Sudan
Population: 28,000 in the surrounding region
This maternity ward was set up originally by UNHCR, an UN organisation, but now requires refurbishment. The state of the ward is currently in an awful state and Human Appeal International plans to carry out this refurbishment by supplying the ward with medical equipment, paint, cupboards, beds, insulation, etc. to improve health care in the area. As much as 50 deliveries and 120 checkups are performed every month at this currently unsuitable clinic. Hundreds, if not thousands, of women are expected to benefit from this project.
